The U.S. is one of the most geographically isolating countries in the world. It’s one of the many reasons why I left. Look at a map. Why does it take Americans years of planning, 10–18 hour flights, and brutal jet lag just to experience some of the most incredible parts of the world? I didn’t fully understand this until I secured legal residency in Spain. That’s when global mobility clicked. Countries that take most Americans years to plan for were suddenly one hour away.
