CREATURE FEATURE The gila monster (Heloderma suspectum) is one of only two truly venomous lizard species in the world (the other being the Mexican beaded lizard). Instead of injecting his prey quickly with venom through hollow fangs, as a venomous snake would do, the gila monster slowly chews its venom into its prey through grooves in its teeth in its lower jaw.
